Es una isla cubierta por selva tropical (Mata Atl\u00e1ntica) y tiene una vocaci\u00f3n natural para el ecoturismo, empezando por el hecho de que los \u00fanicos medios de transporte en la isla son a pie, en bicicleta o en barco (los coches particulares est\u00e1n prohibidos). Dentro de su territorio se encuentra el Parque Estatal de Ilha Grande, el tercer parque insular m\u00e1s grande de Brasil, declarado Patrimonio Estatal en 1987 y Reserva de la Biosfera de la Mata Atl\u00e1ntica en 1992 por la UNESCO. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En 2019, fue reconocida tambi\u00e9n por la UNESCO, junto con la ciudad de Paraty, como Patrimonio Hist\u00f3rico y Natural de la Humanidad.
